The Chery QQ was one of our DVN favourites at the Shanghai auto show for both exterior and interior design. It’s a cheap A/B-segment vehicle, but its technical content is revolutionary compared to the previous QQ. We decided to contact Pierre Fengyou, a PSA ex-designer well known in France, to talk about the new QQ. Instead of a classical interview, Pierre invited us to the QQ studio in Shanghai to have a look at the car and meet the whole team — exterior design, interior design, CMF, HMI, the works!
DVN: Hello Pierre! Will you please introduce yourself?
Pierre Fenyou: Hello, it’s a great honour to be part of this interview. Now I am the Vice GM of the Chery Design Centre since 2021. Prior to this role, I served as Vice President of Design at Qoros Auto and Baoneng Motors, before which I worked at PSA (now Stellantis) for 15 years, and also acted as the Head of Design for PSA Group’s Asia division until 2019.
DVN: When you started work on the new QQ, what was your design brief? The concept was designed by Torino Design, inspired by Nemo, wasn’t it?
