430 automotive lighting experts & designers gathered in Livonia for our annual lighting event in USA, including 40 sponsors, that demonstrates how dynamic and important is automotive lighting in North America, and especially the local supply chain.
78 per cent of vehicles in North America are manufactured domestically. The market is worth USD $1.04tn, with a projected market in 2026 of 15.8 million vehicles, with average price over $50k. SUVs and trucks represent 80 per cent of the market.
The exterior lighting market in North America is worth an estimated $11bn in 2025, and should reach $12bn in 2030 – an increase of 20 per cent. Of that, interior lighting is worth an estimated $1bn in 2025 with annual growth of 8 to 10 per cent until 2032. RGB implementation still lags, per the presentation by Luxit’s Gene Spektor.
Multiple crises in recent years – Covid, Russia’s war on Ukraine, chip shortages followed by AI-driven chip hoarding, sea shipping issues, tariffs and trade-hostile policies, the US war on Iran and attendant unpredictable closures of the Strait of Hormuz. Roland Berger’s Falk Meissner, in his speech, said a resilient supply chain can mitigate crisis costs and help avoid revenue loss and line stoppage. Calculations show some cost savings in their headlamp study.

S&P’s figures show a stable market in the USA with small increase in vehicle numbers.

BEV evolution was reevaluated by S&P between 2025 and 2026, with a 60-per-cent reduction in their 2030 forecast.

Lighting is a really important design feature in USA, especially for trucks and SUVs with super big front ends, unconstrained by pedestrian-protection requirements not present in US regulations. That’s a lot of real estate to put main, auxiliary, and decorative lamps, which are laxly regulated compared to Europe.

As to ADB, they estimate a market share between 5 and 10 per cent in 2030 (versus 30 per cent in Europe and China), with most US ADB systems (80 per cent) predicted to have a pixel count less than 100.

Interior and ambient lighting are evolving fast in North America. The number of units is similar to Europe: an estimated 100 millions units per year in 2031.

With the churn and thrust of lighting design trends, emphasis on local sourcing, and technology shift to SDV architecture, the North American activities of DVN lighting are growing.
