India, the world's second-fastest growing auto market, is in top-gear growth. The country is a hot destination for automobile manufacturers due to its robust economic growth, favourable demographics, higher disposable income, changing lifestyle and positive industrial eco-system. India is expected to become the third biggest automaker in the world within next decade.

The Auto Expo is a biennial trade fair of automobile and auto component manufacturers. It is the largest automotive show in India and also the only one to be accredited by OICA. Every year, scores of people throng the expo to get the latest on the new launches and the concept cars, and they get to witness just that. Most car makers try to make their mark at this event, for which they plan their strategies well in advance. Around 1500 participants from 23 countries do their best to entice customers and gain a strong foothold in the Indian auto market. Automobile manufacturers and other participants use it as a platform to showcase their Brand and their products and for India’s car aficionados this is a grand, not to be missed event.

There were not many significant launches in this Auto Expo unlike the last Auto Expo where the focus was on global launches in small-car space, with the Indian consumer in mind. However, Auto Expo 2012 was all about SUVs and MPVs. There were some exciting products such as Maruti Suzuki’s compact MPV ‘Ertiga’, Ford’s compact SUV ‘EcoSport’ and Bajaj’s ‘RE60’.

With the presence of almost all global automobile players in India it is evident that now advance technology products are being introduced in the Indian market to showcase the designing and technical abilities to the consumers. India being still a huge potential market, all the OEM’s is very cautious on price, delivery and quality parameters. The Indian automobile market has till now witnessed basic lighting technology products and there is huge potential in this area. The designing and manufacturing capabilities for delivery of technological advance products like LED based products using mirror tunnels, edge light using light guides, glowing body and head lamps with LED’s, Xenon, Xenon with AFS function, Bi-Xenon, HID Projection system etc. are presently not available with current automotive lighting product manufacturers in India.
