SLD Laser

SLD Laser – a 2014 start up, spun off from SORAA LED - is actually supplying to the automotive and other markets a new generation of visible laser light sources, with more than 10 x the luminance of LEDs. These sources utilize the company’s proprietary and patented semipolar GaN laser diodes, combined with advanced phosphor chip technology and innovative high luminance SMD packages.

Utilizing this laser pumped phosphor architecture, the sources deliver safe, high luminance white light output, enabling superior optical control with miniature optics and reflectors, along with high efficiency fiber optic transport and waveguide delivery. Such devices deliver more than 1000 candela per mm2 of spatial brightness, with more than 500 lumens of white light output. Integration into 1 km range spotlight modules is achieved with less than 35 mm diameter.

The sources are also combined with MEMS and liquid crystal technology to produce spatially dynamic light patterns.

The same SMD package can be utilized for sensing purposes, such as real time distance measurement. Depending on the application both the mentioned white light source as well as IR laser light can be packaged in the SMD. With the latter, Night Vision is possible as well.

A unique feature of the SLD Laser’s light sources is that they can be used for safe, high speed, large bandwidth LiFi communication. A speed of 1 Gb/sec is standard, multiples up to 10-20 Gb/sec are being developed.
